Flex – Selecting Your Manager
If you need to select or change your line manager, you will have to amend these details in the Flex system to ensure your requests for leave / flex can be authorised by the correct person.
It should be noted that entering a managers name in your entry in the Contacts system will not update your Flex manager as in the Contacts system a person just needs an entry in the Contacts system for you to select them whereas in Flex only those managers who have been delegated permission to authorize requests are listed.
To do this use the instructions below:
- Check your Contacts system entry and ensure that you are in the same Directorate, Service and Service Unit as your manager. If you are not then you should amend your Contacts entry accordingly using the ‘Edit Contacts’ button.
- Open your Flex and select the ‘Settings’ tab
- This will present the Manager screen and will allow you to select your line manager from the ‘Line Manager’ drop-down box and then click on the ‘Continue’ button and that will set your manager entry.
- From this point, any Leave or Flex that you request will cause an alert to be sent to your manager, and all other managers with delegated permissions in your Service Unit, informing them that you have made the request and that it needs authorizing.
Manager Not on the Managers List
The Portal structure has to mirror the Authority’s Constitution (viewed via https://www.tameside.gov.uk/contactus) so managers who may be titled ‘Head of Service’ are seen as SUMs, and above, will have the Manager icon.
If you are in the correct Service Unit and your manager is still not listed then it may be that they have not been given the delegated permissions by the Service Unit Manager (aka ‘Head of Service’). This can happen with new managers and they will need contact the Service Unit Manager (aka ‘Head of Service’) and request that they are given the delegated permissions. Once that has been done, they should then appear on the ‘Managers List’ in Flex and you should be able to select them.
